the Morris book shop is our new neighbor!
Yes, that's right! The independent, general-interest bookstore is now located right around the corner from the Hollywood and Mt. Vernon neighborhoods. They have recently settled into the space formerly occupied by Hubboch & Co., between Rite Aid and Zuni. Welcome to the neighborhood, Morris book shop!

Word on the Street
PARKING NEW! The odd numbered side of the 700 block of Tremont Ave. and the 600 blocks of Berry and Providence are now using Residential Permit Parking as of Fall 2011. The 700 block of Tremont joined the existing RPP zone on Beaumont and the 700 block of Melrose. Vehicles must display permits to park on these streets during designated times. These parking changes were requested by residents through a petition process, studied by LexPark and were approved by City Council. If you have questions, concerns or ideas about improving parking on your street, please first consider talking with your neighbors! Often, small issues can be solved simply by making others aware. If more specialized signage or changes are needed or desired, contact HMVNA at hmvna@yahoo.com or Gary Means at LexPark.
STREET REPAIR According to CM Lawless' office, limited funds have been alloted to District 3 for repairs. Several areas in Hollywood Terrace were patched in summer '09, winter '10 and spring '11 as conditions repeatedly deteriorate, but areas in need of patching and paving still remain, particularly on lower Melrose Ave. CM Lawless' office is aware of this and is working to find a solution.
GRAFFITI Graffiti remains a city-wide issue, so please email hmvna@yahoo.com or call 311 to report any new "art" in our neighborhood. Traffic Engineering and the Sherrif's Office work together to document all graffiti and to clean/replace vandalized signs and structures. The Board received input from the Police CLEAR Unit (Ofc. Keith Gaines) in June 2010 on how best to address this issue within our neighborhoods and are awaiting word about possible "clean up" grants that would fund buckets of supplies for neighborhoods in Lexington.
