Ash Trees Emerald Ash Borer Alert
The Lexington Tree Board has issued a citizen advisory with general recommendations about treating ash trees for the Emerald Ash Borer. Read the advisory here.
Last summer, we identified ash trees in "utility strip" in our neighborhoods (street trees) with lime green tape but there are a few ash trees on private property within our neighborhoods. Maintenance of street trees is the property owner's responsibility.

Street Trees
The maintenance of street trees is the property owner's responsibility. The city does not maintain, plant, or replace street trees except on government property. If a street tree is removed, property owners are required to replace the tree with an approved species within one year.

Tree maintenance reminders--for the health of our trees and for our safety:
- Remove limbs less than 7 feet above sidewalks and 12 feet above streets.
- Remove dead or diseased wood.
- Topping of street trees is prohibited.
- It is recommended that a professional ISA Certified Arborist be used for all work.
